Kreator @ Howard Theater, September 5th, 2012

Went with John to see Kreator w/ Accept and Swallow the Sun on Sept. 5 at the Howard Theater in DC. We metro'd down and got tickets ($32.50). The newly renovated theater was maybe a minute's walk (not even) from the metro. Saw Ruby and Dorothy there. There were about a little over 100 people there.

The Howard Theatre was very nice, it was my first time there and they had recently undergone a several million dollar renovation. It was a little more expensive for drinks (beer $5.50, mixed drink ~$8.50), but it was very nice inside w/ 2 screens on each side of the stage, and VERY CLEAN. The sound, since it was a theatre, was rather great as well.

We got there for like last 4 songs of Swallow the Sun. Accept came on 8:27-9:46. Kreator came on 10:36 and played until midnight (according to a friend). We had to leave at 11:30 to catch metro home, so there was like 30 minutes more of Kreator that I don't know what they played, but the internet provided. It was also the first night of the tour so some...delays were expected. But it sucks cause of having to miss part of Kreator. Looking at the times, almost an hour between Accept and Kreator was pretty horrible.

Swallow the Sun was on when we got there. Heard like 4 songs from them. No clue as to what they were. They apparently have a new CD, so they probably played some songs from that. I could not make out what they were saying or singing. I did not wear earplugs for them. They sounded good, but more of a laid back doomy sound.

Accept sounded GREAT and they were full of energy. No complaints!I kept on thinking.. man they are playing  a LOT of new songs...how many 'hits' are they going to play? They are running out of time! Then they end up playing basically a headline set (1hr 20 minutes). I am (apparently) a huge Accept fan, as I was familiar/knew every song, and was headbanging thru 95% of it. Moshing broke out on 'Fast as a Shark' but was a 'polite pit.' This continued for part of 'Balls to the Wall.' The REAL moshing began when Kreator rolled out \m/. After Accept, I woulda been satisfied to go home as I was soaked thru with sweat after their long set :3 ...but there would be one more band!

Kreator was good, but a little muddy in the vox (as kind of expected for Thrashier bands). Guitars and drums were damn heavy. Since I was less familiar with their songs, I did not enjoy them nearly as much. Ms Ruby is a huge Kreator fan and I saw her headbanging and being rowdy. They had a pretty elaborate stage set up, so that was pretty cool, too. Next time they come around, I'll be more prepared.

All bands had Shirts that were $20. Kreator and Accept had CDs. Accept had a photo program!!! I could not believe it. I got 2 shirts for Milla and my brother (who could not make it as initially planned :( ).  Kreator also had shorts, for some reason.
